When Is the Best Time to Book Your Newborn Photo Session With Me?

The typical newborn baby stage passes FAST! They really do change every day and the way your baby curls into themselves, the softness of their features, the quiet rhythm of those first days - all of it changes more quickly than we expect.
Because of this fleeting moment, timing your newborn session is an important part of preserving it beautifully.
The Ideal Time to Reserve Your Session
The best time to book your newborn photo session is during your pregnancy, ideally around your 20 week scan. This ensures your place in my schedule and allows me to plan availability around your due date with care and flexibility. My diary does fill up months in advance, so booking early really is important.
Rather than assigning a fixed appointment, I reserve space for you based on your estimated due date, only a firm date will be scheduled once you have welcomed your baby and you are ready to be photographed. You need to give yourself time to not feel uncomfortable and not to over exert yourself.
This approach allows your session to unfold naturally - never rushed, always guided by your baby.
When Should the Session Take Place?
Newborn photo sessions are ideally photographed within the first 7-21 days after birth. During this window, babies are typically sleepier and more easily settled into the soft, natural poses that define my style.
It is also a time when their features remain beautifully delicate - the tiny fingers, curled toes, and gentle expressions that are unique to these earliest days.
That said, every baby arrives with their own rhythm. If your session takes place slightly later, the images will simply reflect a different kind of beauty - more alert eyes, more stretching, more personality beginning to emerge.
There is no “too late” to capture your baby. There is only a difference in how this chapter is told and captured.

A Flexible, Thoughtful Approach
Once your baby is born, you simply notify me and we will select a session date together based on how you are feeling and how your baby is settling.
This ensures your experience remains calm and supportive, allowing you time to recover and adjust while knowing your place in my calendar is already secured.
Your only task is to arrive with your baby. Everything else is prepared for you.
For Mothers: An Effortless Experience
Your session is designed to feel as gentle as it is beautiful. For mothers who wish, my curated client wardrobe is available, offering a selection of dresses chosen specifically for their softness, elegance, and how they photograph.
There is no need to search for the perfect outfit - your role is simply to hold your baby and be present in the moment.

Why Booking Early Matters
Because I accept a limited number of newborn sessions each month, availability is intentionally exclusive to ensure each family receives an unhurried and attentive experience. It isn’t just the session that takes time, it’s the editing of your beautiful gallery too. I pour my heart into your images and EVERY one gets my full attention which, of course, takes time too.
Booking in advance allows me to reserve time around your due date, giving your session the care and flexibility it deserves.
It is a small step now that preserves something priceless later.
My Baby Has Already Arrived - Am I Too Late?
Not at all - even though I get booked up many months in advance, plans change! I always allow plenty of wiggle room for early and late arrivals. Sometimes I have extra days available when a pre-booed baby hasn’t yet made their appearance so please do still get in touch, I will always try to help.
A Memory Worth Planning For
Newborn photography is not about perfect timing - it is about intention. It is about choosing to preserve a chapter that will soon feel like a dream.
By reserving your session early, you ensure that when your baby arrives, all that remains for you to do is settle in, breathe them in, and allow this moment to be captured with love, sincerity and professionalism.
I would be honoured to photograph this beginning for you.
