HOW TO PREPARE FOR YOUR NEWBORN SESSION
Newborn sessions take place in my home studio which is perfectly prepared for your newborn. I keep the room at a toasty 26 degrees so baby is comfortable being photographed with minimal clothes. You have access to my entire collection of newborn tiebacks, wraps and props which have been carefully selected based on the comments from your questionnaire.
I use studio lighting so there is no guessing, your photos will have beautiful lighting even if it is cloudy outside. I Often your newborn session will be your first outing and I aim to make it memorable and a very enjoyable I always have a supply of nappies, wipes, muslins etc at hand, just incase, so you are not to worry if you forget anything. All you need to remember is Milk.
In order to give yourself the best possible chance for amazing photos, you have to prepare your baby. Not only will this decrease the amount of time for your session, but it will also make sure your baby is easy to pose. A happy sleepy baby makes for a happy photographer and smooth session. Here are instructions on how to make that happen:
Before the shoot, you many want to consider feeding baby before you leave as the car ride will put them to sleep. Please try your hardest to keep baby up for at least 1.5 hrs before leaving your house, however feel free to let then go to sleep once in the car.
Please bring baby in a button or zippered shirt instead of something that has to go over their head. Something loose fitting. Baby should be asleep by the time you arrive so I want it as easy as possible to undress them so they don’t wake up.
You are more than welcome to nurse/feed at the session. Remember you will make my house your home during the session!
If you can, please bring along a Dummy/Soother to your session. These are life savers during a newborn session. Even if you haven’t used one, or do not plan to use one, just for the 2 hours that I am posing him/her these usually really help. However, if you really prefer that we don’t use one, that’s fine as well! Just keep in mind it may limit the amount of variety of poses I will be able to achieve with your baby.
Sessions normally last between 2-3 hours, sometimes longer if baby is a light sleeper, or is hungry!
For Mum & Dad
The room babies photos will be taken will be about 28 degrees so he/she will be nice and comfortable during their session, however this means it can become quite warm for the adults, please dress appropriately.
Remember you can make the studio your home for the session, if you are including parent/family shots you are more than welcome to come in your pjs and get ready while I photograph baby. You will be pleased to know Parent/family shots are always at the end!
Please wear pale, plain clothing. Please try your best to co-ordinate your outfits.
If you have older children it's only natural you'll want them photographed with your new baby.
Please dress them as plainly as possible, and the paler the better. No patterns or pictures please.
If you would like your older children included in some of the images, you must arrange this with me prior to your session. The newborn session itself is a very gentle, calm and stress free environment. Older children, especially toddlers will get bored very quickly. Dealing with this can cause stress and may unsettle the baby. Also, I would like you to relax and enjoy your time with me.
I kindly ask you to arrange to bring your children in for the images with the baby at either the beginning or end of the session, but they cannot stay for the entire session.
The studio is quite small, so please keep your guest to a minimum.
I aim to start all my sessions around 9:30am. Do not stress if you are late! We work around baby’s schedule, not the other way around:) A typical session lasts about 2-3 hrs.
It is my hope that you enjoy the photo session and feel both comfortable and at home. Feel free to relax (or nap!) while your baby is being photographed. I am truly honored to be able to document this incredible time in your lives and look forward to getting to know you and your sweet baby!
